We begin our Uganda safari in Entebbe with a relaxed arrival beside Lake Victoria. After your airport transfer, we settle into your accommodation and allow you time to recover from your journey.

Our guide welcomes you at Entebbe International Airport and transfers you to your hotel.

The rest of the day remains intentionally relaxed. We believe a memorable safari should begin comfortably rather than with unnecessary rushing.

Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy the surroundings, relax at the lodge, or simply unwind after your international flight.

Lake Victoria provides a peaceful introduction to Uganda. Its broad waters and tropical setting create a gentle contrast to the wilderness experiences ahead.

We use this first evening to prepare for the adventure. Tomorrow, we leave Entebbe and begin our journey into Uganda’s wildlife country.

We drive from Entebbe to Lake Mburo National Park for our first wildlife experience, combining a game drive with an opportunity for a walking safari.

Our journey takes us southwest toward Lake Mburo National Park, one of Uganda’s distinctive savannah destinations.

The landscape gradually changes as we leave the urban surroundings behind. Open grasslands, rolling countryside, farms, and traditional communities become part of the journey.

Once inside the park, we begin looking for wildlife.

Lake Mburo supports animals such as zebra, impala, eland, waterbuck, buffalo, hippos, and topi. With patience, we may also encounter predators, including hyenas and leopards.

In the afternoon, we can combine a game drive with a short walking safari. Walking offers a completely different perspective from exploring the park by vehicle.

Instead of simply watching wildlife from a distance, we pay attention to tracks, plants, insects, bird calls, and smaller details.

After our activities, we return to the lodge for an evening surrounded by the atmosphere of the Ugandan wilderness.

Our Tip

Lake Mburo works especially well as an introduction to Uganda because its open landscapes offer rewarding wildlife viewing without requiring a long first-day journey.

We explore Lake Mburo from two perspectives today, combining a boat safari with a horseback wildlife experience across the savannah.

We start the morning on the water.

Our boat safari follows the lakeshore as wildlife gathers around the water. Hippos are often among the most noticeable residents, while buffalo and antelope may appear along the shoreline.

The lake and surrounding wetlands also support a rich birdlife experience.

We take our time on the water because some of Uganda’s most rewarding safari moments come from slowing down.

Later, we exchange the boat for a horseback safari.

Horseback exploration gives us a quieter way to move through the landscape. We can observe animals such as zebra, impala, waterbuck, and other antelope while experiencing the savannah at ground level.

The experience provides a refreshing contrast to conventional game drives.

We return to our lodge in the evening and enjoy time to relax after an active day in the park.

We leave Lake Mburo and travel toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, entering Uganda’s mountainous southwest and preparing for gorilla trekking.

Today takes us deeper into southwestern Uganda.

The journey toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park reveals a dramatic change in scenery. Savannah gradually gives way to rolling hills, cultivated slopes, mountain landscapes, and dense forest.

The final approach to Bwindi is part of the experience.

The road winds through Uganda’s highlands, where the landscape becomes greener and more mountainous. Terraced farmland and local communities provide glimpses into life around the forest.

By afternoon, we reach our accommodation near Bwindi.

The forest itself creates a striking first impression. Mist often hangs around the hills, adding to the atmosphere of one of Africa’s most important mountain gorilla habitats.

We use the afternoon to relax and prepare for the following day.

Our Tip

We recommend an early night because gorilla trekking starts early and can involve several hours of hiking through challenging forest terrain.

Today we trek into Bwindi’s ancient forest to search for a habituated mountain gorilla family and spend a precious hour observing them in their natural habitat.

This is one of the defining days of our Uganda safari.

After breakfast, we head to the designated trailhead for our gorilla trekking experience.

We receive a briefing before entering the forest. The trek can vary considerably because mountain gorillas move through their natural habitat.

Some treks are relatively short. Others require several hours of hiking across steep, muddy, or densely forested terrain.

We follow experienced trackers and guides through the forest while looking for signs of the gorilla family.

Then comes the moment we have been waiting for.

When we locate the gorillas, we spend our permitted viewing time observing their natural behavior. We may see adults feeding, mothers caring for young ones, juveniles playing, or silverbacks monitoring the group.

We keep our distance and follow all park regulations throughout the encounter.

The experience is not simply about photography. We encourage you to put the camera down occasionally and appreciate the privilege of watching these endangered great apes in the wild.

After trekking, we return to the lodge to rest and reflect on the experience.

Activity: Gorilla Trekking

Our Tip

Gorilla trekking requires reasonable fitness. We recommend sturdy hiking shoes, waterproof clothing, gardening gloves, and walking poles.

We return to Bwindi’s forest for a second gorilla trekking experience, approaching another gorilla group from the Rushaga trailhead.

Today gives us another opportunity to experience Uganda’s mountain gorillas.

We head toward the Rushaga trailhead and prepare for another trek through Bwindi’s dense rainforest.

The terrain can be steep and muddy. Trails may also become difficult as we move deeper into the forest.

Our trackers lead the way while we search for signs of the gorilla group.

Every trek develops differently. The forest conditions, gorilla movements, weather, and terrain all influence the experience.

When we find the gorillas, we settle into observation.

A second encounter can feel completely different from the first. Each gorilla family has its own social dynamics, personalities, and daily routines.

We spend the permitted viewing time watching the group without disturbing their natural behavior.

Afterwards, we hike back toward the trailhead before returning to our lodge.

The remainder of the day is reserved for rest, relaxation, and enjoying the surrounding forest landscape.

Our Tip

A second trek is ideal for travelers who want more than a single gorilla encounter. It also gives you two opportunities to experience different forest conditions and gorilla behavior.

We leave Bwindi for Queen Elizabeth National Park and explore the Ishasha Sector, renowned for its tree-climbing lions and diverse savannah wildlife.

After breakfast, we leave Bwindi and travel north toward Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Our route takes us toward the Ishasha Sector, one of the most distinctive wildlife areas in western Uganda.

Ishasha is particularly known for its tree-climbing lions.

With patience and good guiding, we search for lions resting in the branches of large trees. Their elevated position gives them a useful vantage point over the surrounding plains.

The sector also supports Ugandan kob, elephants, buffalo, and other wildlife.

We take time to explore the savannah rather than rushing through the area.

The contrast between Bwindi’s dense rainforest and Ishasha’s open grasslands makes today’s journey especially rewarding.

By evening, we settle into our accommodation and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the park.

Our Tip

Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. We focus on reading the landscape and animal behavior rather than promising specific encounters.

We combine an early game drive with a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, giving us two different ways to experience Queen Elizabeth’s wildlife.

We begin the day with a game drive across Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Early mornings often provide excellent conditions for wildlife viewing. We search the savannah for lions, elephants, buffalo, antelope, and other species.

Our guide reads tracks, vegetation, animal behavior, and recent sightings to help us understand the ecosystem.

Later, we enjoy one of the park’s signature experiences: a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel.

The channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George and supports a remarkable concentration of wildlife.

From the water, we can observe hippos, elephants, buffalo, crocodiles, and numerous bird species along the shoreline.

The slower pace of the boat provides a welcome contrast to the morning game drive.

We return to our lodge after the cruise and enjoy a relaxed evening surrounded by the sounds of the park.

Today we journey toward Kibale Forest National Park.

Our route passes through landscapes influenced by the dramatic Rwenzori Mountain range, often associated with the legendary Mountains of the Moon.

The scenery changes once again as we approach Kibale.

The dense tropical forest is home to an impressive variety of primates and birds. It also provides the setting for tomorrow’s chimpanzee tracking experience.

Depending on arrival time, we can enjoy a guided experience around a nearby crater lake.

The crater landscapes surrounding Kibale add another dimension to the region, with forested hills, water-filled volcanic craters, and rich birdlife.

We settle into our lodge and prepare for the following day’s chimpanzee tracking.

The evening offers a chance to relax while listening to the sounds of the forest.

We enter Kibale Forest to track wild chimpanzees, following experienced trackers through ancient rainforest in search of one of Africa’s most fascinating primates.

Today, we explore one of Uganda’s premier primate destinations.

After breakfast, we head into Kibale Forest for chimpanzee tracking.

Our guides and trackers look for signs of chimpanzee activity as we move through the forest.

The experience involves more than simply finding the animals.

We listen for calls, examine tracks, and watch the canopy for movement. The forest can reveal other primates and wildlife along the way.

When we locate the chimpanzees, we observe their behavior from a respectful distance.

Chimpanzees can be remarkably expressive. We may witness social interactions, feeding, movement through the trees, or communication between individuals.

Their intelligence and complex social behavior make the encounter particularly engaging.

Kibale is widely recognized for its importance to primate conservation, making this experience an essential part of our Uganda wildlife safari.

We continue north to Murchison Falls National Park, where the River Nile forces through a narrow gorge before creating one of Uganda’s most dramatic natural spectacles.

Our journey continues toward Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest national park.

The landscape changes as we travel north, eventually opening into broad wilderness areas.

The park is dominated by the River Nile, which creates one of Uganda’s most recognizable natural landmarks.

At Murchison Falls, the Nile is forced through a narrow gorge before plunging dramatically downstream.

We take time to appreciate the falls and surrounding landscape.

Depending on timing and conditions, we can also explore nearby areas and observe wildlife around the park.

Afterwards, we continue to our lodge for the evening.

The combination of flowing water, open wilderness, and abundant wildlife gives Murchison Falls a distinct character within our safari.

Murchison Falls deserves more than a quick viewpoint stop. We recommend allowing enough time to appreciate both the falls and the surrounding wildlife ecosystem.

We spend our final full safari day cruising the River Nile, watching hippos, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, birds, and other wildlife along the riverbanks.

We begin our final full day with a memorable boat safari on the River Nile.

The river provides a different perspective of Murchison Falls National Park.

Hippos dominate sections of the water, while crocodiles rest along the banks. Elephants may gather near the shoreline, and giraffes can often be seen across the surrounding landscape.

Birdwatchers also have plenty to observe.

We move slowly along the river, allowing the scenery and wildlife to unfold naturally.

This is one of the more relaxed experiences of the itinerary and gives us time to appreciate Uganda beyond the excitement of game drives and trekking.

After the cruise, we return to the lodge.

The final evening gives us an opportunity to reflect on the journey, from Lake Mburo’s savannah to Bwindi’s mountain forests and Kibale’s primate-rich rainforest.

After breakfast, we transfer to the nearby airstrip for our scheduled flight to Entebbe.

Flying saves considerable road time and provides a convenient conclusion to an extensive journey through Uganda.
